HISTORY OF THE PINE RIVER PRE-PACK COMPANY
The Lindemann’s family cheese making roots run deep in Wisconsin. They’ve been making cheese since their patriarch Herman Lindemann, settled in Liberty Township in 1870 after emigrating from Prussia. Liberty is close to the location where the current Pine River plant rests. In 1886, his dairy farm on 155 acres of pristine woodland was already established.
By 1907, his son Gustav Lindemann co-founded Northern Wisconsin Produce Co. in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The new company assembled, warehoused and sold Wisconsin cheese nationwide.
Philip C. Lindemann incorporated Pine River Pre-Pack independently from his father in 1964. Besides packaging natural cuts of cheese, his new company began making Cold Pack Cheese Food using his own special recipe that always included his selection of the best cheese for his Cold Pack blends. This decision made Pine River synonymous with quality. Customers could taste the difference over other companies cold pack cheeses made with inferior ingredients, and the brand’s reputation and sales continued to grow. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he experimented with innovative flavors and new packaging technology to keep the product fresher and more convenient to use. Finally, in 1996, he registered the domain name PineRiver.com.
The tradition of excellence and quality at Pine River continues under Philip’s guidance with 4 new partners Chauncey Behm, Ian Behm, Scott Caliebe, and Cory Meyer. The company to continues to grow and modernize operations. This ensures consumers will continue to receive the quality and excellence the Lindemann family has established for many years to come.
